What Size of Berkey??
Below are some guidelines on sizing up a
Berkey system to suit your needs. Please
keep in mind there are many factors in sizing a Berkey which may not be
applicable to everyone. Below are a few
things you may wish to consider when sizing a Berkey system:
1.
Will I be using post
filters? The addition of PF-2 post
filters for Fluoride and Arscenic reduction can reduce flow rates by approximately
30%.
2.
What will the water mainly be used
for? Some people use their Berkey system
for purifying water for drinking only, while others may use it for cooking,
baking, rinsing fruits and vegetables, pets, watering plants, sprouting, nut
and seed milks, etc.
3.
Will I be storing any water
outside of the system? Some people
prefer to have a smaller system and keep a couple of litres on hand outside of
the system in glass pitchers. Please
keep in mind these are only suggestions.
Based on these numbers you may wish to go up one size if planning on
using post filters. The extra storage capacity of a larger system can be
beneficial during times when water is being used faster than the system can
produce.
